Chesnee High School
The Recycling program began here in 2006. We received a grant from DHEC and bought bins for all the classrooms, and offices. We recycle paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, batteries, ink cartridges, and corrugated paper at this time.
The bottle contest began in 2011 and we collected over 10,000 bottles. Ms. Terri Kimbrell class was the winner in 2011 and collected over 6,000 bottles. Last year we collected over 10,000 bottles from the entire school in a 2 week period.
This year's contest was even more competitive with Ms. Terri Kimbrell's class and Mr. Ritchie Garland's class going head to head for two weeks to win the donut prize. In the end the winner was Terri Kimbrell' s class with 10,263 bottles. Mr. Garland's class came in 2nd with 6780 cans and bottles. The entire school total was 19,976 cans and bottles. We run the contest to try and remind students that they can bring their recycling from home.
The Chesnee high school website also has a webpage about the recycling here.
The recyclers have also won third place the last two years in the recycled scarecrow contest held at the county fair. Her name was trashy Alice. This year's statue was the Scare cow.
